Merlin

Came across an incredibly tame Merlin this afternoon whilst caring out working on the grazing marshes.  With no SX50 to hand the only way of capturing this impressive was to digi-bin it resulting in some very pleasing shots!

    Sparrowhawk feast

This afternoon a female sparrowhawk was feasting on a collared dove kill for over an hour. I didn't see it fly off but only feathers were left behind.  Just a few days ago a male sparrowhawk stunned itself flying into our conservatory window.  After a few short aborted flights it then flew off apparently none the worse for its collision.

Off Patch: at LWT Willow Tree Fen

Yesterday a trip to Spalding and beyond to see the long-staying bluethroat, and a very recently created  wetland. Very impressive site looks like they will have fun managing the rush! Also managed to see a nice flock of 24 white-fronts and a variety of wildfowl especially nice numbers of shoveler. Although it didn't feel especially mild (slightly under-dressed), the coot were extremely vocal sorting out territories. Great site will visit again.
