Red-veined Darter
Part of a significant influx to the eastern coastal counties of England, several of these colourful beasts could be seen on coastal pools on the patch from 30th June, including at least one pair in tandem which were busy egg-laying on 1st July.

Butterflies and flowers
The hot, humid weather has been great for butterflies and other insects. These are just a few I managed to photograph during this week, together with a couple of unusual flowers.

Too many Moths
Finally the Moths are coming thick and fast with four days of the species list being round the 50 mark and numbers approaching 100. Highlights from Holme over the past couple of days have included multiple Red-necked Footman, Barred Red, Small Angle Shades, Double Dart, Dog's Tooth, Beautiful Hook-tip, Scorched Wing, Rosy Footman, Ghost moth and the usual but nationally notable Sand Dart, Shore Wainscot and Lyme Grass.
