Monday April 14th

I paid a brief mid-afternoon visit to Holme NWT today after returning form a week's holiday in Yorkshire. New (for me at least) were flowering Cow Parsley, Honesty and Lords and Ladies, 3 Swallows, a Segde Warbler, Speckled Wood butterfly, Common Carder Bee Bombus pascuorum and the hoverflies Helophilus pendulous and Melanostoma scalar. A further hoverfly species remains to be identified. Otherwise, the highlight was a pair of Mediterranean Gulls heading slowly east towards the pools. It felt great to be back in bright sunshine, even if the wind was a tad on the cool side !
