Butterflies etc. at Holme Dunes

Although there was a cool wind blowing at Holme today, there were lots of butterflies around in the more sheltered sunny spots. Butterflies recorded were Small Copper and Wall Brown (both in big numbers), Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Speckled Wood, Small White, Common Blue, Small Heath, Brown Argus and Green Hairstreak. Caterpillars of Drinker, Brown-tailed and Garden Tiger moths were seen.
Big numbers of Swallows, Swifts, House Martins and Sand Martins flew west along the dunes. A rather lazy Pintail drake spent most of the day on the bank of the Broadwater.
The only new flower for the patch was Common Milkwort - several found in the dunes.
