Easing into 2014!

My birding year got off to a slow start! Still recovering from a virus/cold that had been affecting me for the last 2 weeks, a walk around the fields at the back of the house towards Ringstead Downs & a short walk along Hunny north prom seemed th sensible option!

The walk along Downs road produced the usual flock of 50 House Sparrow in the hedges, plus 20 Greenfinch & numerous Goldfinch. The fields held c30 Curlew & Red-legged Partridge. More noteworthy were a few Yellowhammer, & my main target, several Brambling, present in the game strip. A bonus bird was a Bullfinch heard calling. Also 4 Brown Hates were chasing around in the adjacent field.

We walk along the prom, produced the usual shorebirds, Dunlin, Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover, Redshank, Oystercatcher, Turnstone. Several Fulmar were soaring up & down & I managed to count 80 3 days ago on the cliffs between lighthouse & the town.

Just 32 species, try & add few more tomorrow in the sunshine!!
